RaGa Udayaswar at Pridhvi Theater

After so many years..

Thought of posting updates on Mumbai Music shows like -
L Subramaniam's Violin and fusion with Flute;
The Fusion of Sivamani , Stephen Devassy , Mandolin Rajesh ;
The most cherished day-long Mumbaiyin Margazhi Utsavam (Mridanga Vidwan Sri Umayalpuram Sivaraman, Mandolin Rajesh, Violin Vidushi A.Kanyakumari, Veena Ramani Chander,  Vocal concert by Ms.S.Sowmya, followed by another vocal concert by Mr.Abhishek Raghuram - all these for Rs.500);
Kala Ghoda Art Festival;
And some good movies, books, etc  to record memories at Mumbai.

Somehow, laziness took over precedence..

Today I attended the Udayaswar at Pridhvi Theater, Mumbai .

Before going into the concert details, let me introduce the Pridhvi Theater .. google informs that it was brain child of Pridhvi Raj Kapoor, carried on the legacy by his family, etc.  But the beauty is that the auditorium is void of any sound systems like mike, amplifiers, speakers, etc. Only the actual voices and sound of the instruments fill the hall.

And today - Ranjani Gayathri presented the Udayaswar at 7.30 in the morning.

I reached early, as the ticketing is not numbered - first come get front seats; even then, many elders from south families are in the queue.  Once the entry allowed, luckily, I got a first row place - felt amazing :)

The morning mood got started with a Dikshithar Kriti in Vasantha - Ramachandram Bhavayami

Then came the - my vocabulary is not enough to explain the feel -
"Nannu vidachi thara thaguna"  Tyagaraja kriti in Reetigowla -   it was like feeling goosebumps through out the kriti.  I could find old you tube videos by Nithya Shree Mahadevan and Sanjay Subramanyam, Sudha Raghunathan, etc but what I enjoyed today is at 'vere level' .

And the RTP - soulful rendition of  Charukesi - both Ranjani and Gayathri were at their best, ably supported by Mr.L.RamaKrishnan on violin and Mr.Sai Giridhar on mridangam.  The pallavi from Javadeva Astapadi - Priye Charusheele - mesmarising experience.  And at the end, a bit fusion like ragamalika with Kanada made it more enjoyable.

Then a Hidusthani Lalit - joined with Subha Pantuvarali and Thodi

Saying that they have not sung a Tamil piece, presented 2 Viruthams (of Kamban) -
naadiya porul kaikkoodum  and nanmaiyum selvamum naadu nalgume

continued into Papanasam Sivan's "Ramai bhajithaal noi vinai theerume" in Maund

rAma nAmAmrutam piNikku divyauSadam jaya rAm rAm rAm - full of devotion _/\_

And the organiser requested for a piece on Pandarivasa - a beautiful 'Pandarise bhooth mothe'

Simply Divine Experience.

That's all for today.
